Trichologist, Dr. David Kingsley - America’s Foremost Hair Loss Specialist

Discusses Tips & Advice For Hair Loss Sufferers and

His Book “The Hair-Loss Cure: A Self-Help Guide”

Hair loss is a condition that affects approximately 85 percent of men and 60 percent of women at some time in their lives.

Most commonly, hair loss is not caused by just one factor, but by a combination of two, three, or even more things simultaneously affecting your hair cycle. Therefore, treatments designed for one aspect will not always help another.

Dr. David Kingsley is the world's only trichologist (hair/scalp specialist) named as a member of the prestigious American Academy of Dermatology.

Dr. Kingsley’s new book, "The Hair-Loss Cure: A Self-Help Guide” points male and female hair loss sufferers in the right direction to discover why they are losing their hair and offers help to find the best treatment for their problem.

For Men:

Over 50 million men in the U.S. suffer from hair loss due to genetic hair loss and other reasons, such as thyroid problems, increased stress, cancer treatment and poor diet.

For most men, losing hair is very traumatic and they would do almost anything to stop it falling out.  Men's relationships are affected by their hair loss as are their careers.  Many choose different occupations because of their hair loss (source American Hair Loss Association www.americanhairloss.org).

The psychological effects can cause diminished self-esteem, body-image and social functioning, and increased stress.  These effects are often influenced by a man's age, extent of hair loss, and marital status.

For Women:

Mistakenly thought to be strictly a male disease, the American Academy of Dermatology says the incidence of hair loss in females in the U. S.   is increasing, affecting upwards of 40 million women across several life stages.

More and more, women are reaching out to their dermatologists and trichologists for help in finding an effective treatment. Hair loss in women can be detrimental to the sufferer's self image and emotional well being. It's a real issue which is being raised by the American Academy of Dermatology. In women, stress, poor diet, the Pill, childbirth, cancer treatment and menopause are blamed for this national problem.

In his book, Dr. Kingsley offers help and advice for hair loss sufferers and discusses:

·        The "Seven H’s of Hair Loss": Heredity, Hormones, Health, Healing (medication), Hassle (stress), Hunger (diet), and Hairdressing

·        How to overcome your psychological and/or lifestyle problems caused by hair loss

·        How stress can trigger hair loss and ways to help.

·        Causes and treatments to help men, women, and children understand and cope with their condition.

·        How to measure if your hair loss is excessive or normal

·        How to monitor the progress of your hair treatment

Dr. Kingsley offers the following tips:

1. First and foremost, don't panic. Not all hair loss is genetic or permanent. In many cases, hair loss is a temporary issue and will eventually grow back.

2. Consult an expert. There are trained specialists like trichologists and dermatologists that can provide personalized advice and treatment for more severe thinning hair and hair loss problems.

3. Consume a nutritious diet -- healthy eating can prevent hair loss and keeps hair strong and shiny -- consume adequate amounts of fish, nuts, flax, vegetables, fruits, whole grain, protein and vitamin supplements.

4. Remember that children and teens are also affected and are the victims of the emotional trauma and peer humiliation resulting from hair loss.

5. Seek early intervention.

Power Play: The Bush Presidency and the Constitution

New Brookings Press Book Examines How President Bush Has Weakened the Rule of Law

WASHINGTON, June 11 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Since 9/11, President George W. Bush has fundamentally challenged the rule of law by making extraordinary assertions of executive power -- but the U.S. Constitution deliberately divides powers among the three branches of government. The new Brookings Institution Press book Power Play explains how the Bush presidency has weakened the separation of powers. Noted presidency scholar James P. Pfiffner analyzes how this happened and why it is a threat to America's republican style of government.

While numerous presidents have sought to escape the constitutional constraints placed on the executive branch, Pfiffner shows how the Bush administration went further than most. It denied the writ of habeas corpus to individuals deemed to be enemy combatants. It suspended the Geneva Convention and allowed or encouraged the use of harsh interrogation methods amounting to torture. It ordered the surveillance of Americans without obtaining warrants as required by law. And it issued numerous signing statements implying that the president does not have the duty to faithfully execute hundreds of provisions in the laws he has signed.

Power Play puts these efforts to expand executive power into constitutional and historical perspective. It argues that President Bush's actions, if allowed to stand as precedents, will encourage future presidents to ignore the legislative and judicial branches. This imbalance in the constitutional division of powers could lead to executive domination of the government, he argues, a situation explicitly rejected by the Framers of the Constitution. The implications of these actions go far beyond the Bush administration itself--if the other two branches do not authoritatively reject President Bush's constitutional claims, future presidents may claim the same powers. In arguing that these rights and liberties must not be abandoned lightly, Pfiffner traces the origin of individual rights back to the Magna Carta. He examines the evolution of England's Parliament and explains how, over the centuries, it wrested important powers from English monarchs. The Framers of the Constitution accepted the British tradition of individual rights and legislative authority, but they created a uniquely American system that divides power in order to control it. Examining Bush's power grabs in the name of "the war on terror," Pfiffner concludes that these practices have imperiled the rule of law and that it is imperative for the other two branches to fight back and assert their own constitutional prerogatives.

James P. Pfiffner is professor of public policy at GeorgeMasonUniversity. He is the author or editor of a dozen books on the presidency and American government, including The Character Factor: How We Judge America's Presidents (Texas A&M University Press, 2004) and The Strategic Presidency: Hitting the Ground Running, second edition (University Press of Kansas, 1996). Pfiffner taught previously at the University of California, Riverside, and CaliforniaStateUniversity, Fullerton. A veteran of the 25th Infantry Division (1/8 Artillery), he received the Army Commendation of Medal for Valor in Vietnam and Cambodia in 1970.

The Brookings Institution is a private nonprofit organization devoted to independent research and innovative policy solutions. For more than 90 years, Brookings has analyzed current and emerging issues and produced new ideas that matter -- for the nation and the world.
